All equipment can be hired lakeside and instruction is often available. A number of villages surround Lake Millstatt and each has it's own amenities and charm, the closest to Kolbnitz are the main centres of Millstatt and Seeboden.

Other lakes  worth a visit include Ossiachersee (50 minutes) and Worthersee (60 minutes), both have spectacular views, while Lake Ossiach hosts the Carinthian Summer Music Festival in early July.
