Ice Climbing in Maltatal and Moelltal

The Moell valley (Kolbnitz's valley) and the Malta valley (20 minutes drive) are characterised by their huge waterfalls, plummeting wild and untamed down into the valley. In December, little by little, the cold makes the proud waterfalls freeze into sparkling ice sculptures for several months - a Mecca for all fans of ice climbing.

Special ice climbing parks as well as numerous top-class ice climbing locations are just waiting to be conquered. There are also try-out lessons and whole training weeks (equipment included) for beginners. In recent years, the Malta Valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park Region in Carinthia has developed into one of the most popular ice climbing areas in the Eastern Alps. The easy accessibility of the tours, the large number of possibilities, the (for the most part) continuously good ice quality and the relative safety from avalanches creates the perfect zone for ice climbers of all abilities.

In January each year there is the 'Eis Total' ice climbing festival in Malta, the cult climbing festival for all ice climbers.
